Hormone Revival: 3 Months to Your Best Self

What To Expect:

  • Step 1:

Your program begins with a 60-minute virtual visit with your provider using our telehealth platform. During this visit, we will review your intake form, covering medical history, family history, goals, and concerns. Labs will be ordered if needed, with an order emailed to you for completion at a local lab. If appropriate, a prescription for bioidentical medication will be sent to your preferred pharmacy, aiming for insurance coverage.

  • Step 2:

You will complete laboratory testing to assess hormones, thyroid/adrenal health, metabolic markers, and more. The program covers the lab costs, excluding a one-time draw fee charged by the lab. Detailed lab interpretations will be provided, helping us to understand your unique health profile and create a tailored plan.

  • Step 3:

When your lab results are ready, you’ll have a second in-depth telehealth consultation with your provider. We’ll review the results, answer questions, and map out an ongoing care plan. This may include adjustments to prescriptions, supplements, or other therapies. You’ll also receive a personalized toolkit to support your journey toward better health.

  • Step 4:

Weekly educational documents will be sent to your inbox to empower you with knowledge about your health. Topics include hormone functions, benefits and risks of therapies, and findings from the Women’s Health Initiative Study. These resources will help you make informed decisions and understand every aspect of your treatment plan.

  • Step 5:

Your provider will guide you through important lifestyle changes for a smoother transition into the next stage of life. You’ll receive recommendations on diet, exercise, and macronutrient needs based on Dr. Mary Claire Haver’s “Menopause Toolkit.” Together, we’ll create habits to enhance strength, mobility, and overall quality of life.

  • Step 6:

Your third appointment will focus on your response to the therapies initiated. We’ll discuss any positive changes or side effects you’ve experienced. Using shared decision-making, we may adjust the dose, formulation, or frequency of your treatments to ensure maximum symptom relief with minimal side effects.

  • Step 7:

You will have access to a link through our patient portal, allowing you to contact your provider anytime with questions or concerns. This open communication ensures you feel supported and confident throughout your program and treatment journey.

  • Step 8:

At the end of your 3-4 month program, you can choose to continue in the hormone optimization program for ongoing care. Monthly follow-ups will fine-tune your plan. Alternatively, you can transition to primary care management or schedule individual visits as needed to maintain your results.

FAQs

What type of hormones do you prescribe?

We prescribe bioidentical hormone replacement therapy whenever it is feasible and if there are no contraindications (this is rare). These hormones are chemically identical to what your own body makes.

Occasionally we will prescribe synthetic forms if indicated (which is sometimes the case in perimenopause with certain symptoms)  but our preference is ALWAYS bioidentical.

We provide prescriptions from your local pharmacy which are typically free, or very low priced through your personal insurance.  We also use customized compounded formulations from our trusted compounding pharmacy partners when necessary.  If you do not have insurance we can provide cost effective ways to obtain these medications.

Compounded forms of hormones can be dosed in a more customized manner than the commercial products.

We choose the option based on your needs, desires, concerns/symptoms and your lab work (something many hormone providers do not do).

Some hormones we prescribe include topical estradiol such as patches, creams, or gels, vaginal estrogen therapy, oral and topical progesterone, and topical testosterone.

Is it true that I am not a candidate for HRT if I still have a period?

No, it is not.  Many of the women that benefit from HRT are those that are in perimenopause, which often means volatile spikes and drops in estrogen ... .but still cycling monthly.  The average age of menopause is 51.5, and we know perimenopause can begin 7-10 years before this so many women begin experiencing symptoms in their late 30s!

Will I need to be on HRT forever?

That’s up to you and your medical provider. There’s not usually a medical reason for someone to stop their hormones simply due to their age or duration of treatment. In fact, the data shows we benefit from staying on hormone therapy for the long run in regards to our bone, brain, breast, and heart.  This has been studied to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes) and dementia.  It also reduces risk for insulin resistance, diabetes, and obesity.

Can all women take HRT?

No, some women have medical contraindications to taking HRT, but most do not. We cover this in our free consult calls and are happy to help you understand your options. There are many non-hormone options available depending on the symptoms we are addressing.

How do I know if I should stop taking HRT?

All medication decisions should be made together with your trusted medical provider. We think women deserve to have a hormone-literate provider for their entire lives.

I was on the birth control pill and didn’t like it.  Does this mean that I would not be a good candidate for HRT?

No!  HRT is bioidentical (not synthetic) and dosed at MUCH lower doses than oral contraceptives.  It is meant to provide physiologic levels of hormone replacement.  It will not prevent ovulation or pregnancy.  Sometimes the problem is not low estrogen, but the fluctuating inconsistent spikes of high and low estrogen that are causing the problem.

How do I know if I am in menopause?

Menopause typically means you have gone 365 days without a menstrual cycle.  Oftentimes, women have had a uterine artery embolization or have a hormone coated IUD and are not having normal cycles.  We can use lab tests to tell if you are in menopause.  Labs tests are typically of  minimal usefulness in perimenopause due to the erratic nature of estrogen in this time period.

Is it too late for me to take hormones if I am already in menopause?

This is very dependent on how long it has been since your final period, how long it has been since you last used hormones, and your medical risk factors that include your cardiovascular health and lipids.  Oftentimes, we partner with your PCP or cardiologist to do a risk factor stratification.

Do you take medical insurance?

At our practice, we are deeply committed to providing each patient with personalized, high-quality care. In order to maintain the level of attention and individualized treatment that our patients deserve, we have chosen not to accept insurance.  Insurance companies often impose rigid time limits for appointments, which can prevent us from dedicating the necessary time to thoroughly address each patient's unique health concerns.

Can you be my primary care provider?

Due to the specialized nature of what we do, we cannot provide primary care of gynecological care and do recommend that you continue your relationship with your current providers.

What states do you see patients in?

Currently we see patients in the state of Nevada.
